NetNewsWire is news feed aggregator cum news reader for Mac OS X. It is quick and very easy to use.

NetNewsWire is an amazing application for news junkies who like to keep themselves updated with the latest happenings around the world. NetNewsWire can fetch and display news from many different websites and weblogs which have RSS or Atom feeds. Its interface is an integrated NetNewsWire browser similar to Apple Mail adorning three panes where the first pane lists websites; second one lists news titles when a site is clicked and if a particular news title interests you, you can delve into the detailed news in the third pane. Recent changes leaves the interface largely unchanged but notably adds the ability to sync with the popular Google Reader service, while eliminating NetNewsWire’s old NewsGator service. Other features include flagging, organizing, and reading news feeds as simple previews or as full articles, supports tabs, allows sorting and managing feeds (manually or using “smart” settings), and provides navigation by clicking through all your news with the space bar. More advanced features, such as automatic downloading for podcasts (with import to iTunes), flexible “clippings” (to save articles for later, even in different categories), search-engine subscriptions (basically, persistent self-updating searches) and more. The ad-free version comes for a price however you can get NetNewsWire for free with a small ad lingering on the lower left side of your interface.

  • A tabbed browser lets you read web pages with the convenience of staying in the same window.
  • Search your news items with a standard Apple search widget as in Mail and other applications.
  • Downloads podcasts and enclosures and sends podcasts to iTunes with your choice.
  • Resolves problems with feeds from the BBC, and with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion’s garbled favicons.

Note: NetNewsWire and other apps are subject to crashes under OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion when automatic proxy detection is turned on. This is a bug only Apple can fix.

Intel, Mac OS X 10.6 or later
